A digest of the history of artience group from its founding in 1896 to today.

Our History

1896: Founder Kamataro Kobayashi opened the “Kobayashi Ink Store”.

1901: Established an ink manufacturing plant in Tokyo and started manufacturing lithographic printing inks.

1906: Established pigments department in Tokyo and started manufacturing pigments.

1907: Renamed Toyo Ink Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Manufacture and sale of printing ink, sale of printing accessories, and related operations are listed in the company’s articles of incorporation as its business description.

1926: Established its first overseas branch office in Shanghai, China.

1929: Started gravure ink sales in Japan.

1957: Began developing adhesives technology.

1959: Kawagoe Factory (currently Toyochem Kawagoe Factory) completed in Japan. Began production of metal coating agent Finishes in Japan.

1967: Listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

1971: Released the UV-curable ink Flash Dry series.

1973: Started importing and selling laminating adhesives in Japan.

1976: Established Toyo Ink America in New Jersey, the United States of America.

1980: Saitama Factory (currently Toyo Ink Saitama Factory) completed.

1982: Developed Computer Color Matching systems for offset inks, gravure inks, and metal decorating inks.

1983: Started sales of inkjet inks in Japan.

2010: Established “Toyo Ink Brasil” in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

2014: Toyo ink Brasil built a plant in Jundiai, São Paulo, and began production of offset inks, gravure inks, and flexographic inks.

2019: Started joint verification aimed at practical application of material recycling of plastic containers and packaging in Japan.

2024: Toyo Ink SC Holdings Co., Ltd. was renamed and artience Co., Ltd. was launched. We changed our philosophy and established a Brand Promise “Create value that resonates with the senses and build a future where all people can live enriched lives. Our Principles were established.
